Indiana Judo Promotions

By Jacqueline Hanoman

On Saturday, the Ross Community Center Judo Academy, led by our Head Sensei John Hampton and Assistant Sensei Carey Mountcastle, had the pleasure of hosting the Judo Rank Promotion Examination for the State of Indiana Judo Organization and the Indiana Judo Incorporated Annual Business Meeting.

Three Judoka were promoted to Shodan (1st degree Black Belt) after successfully passing their skills and knowledge tests. Two of these are father and daughter Judoka duo Dan and Faith Davenport, who are part of our Judo Academy. Dan is proud of participating in the Judo program at the Ross Center when he was growing up.

Another of our Judoka, Arell Sago, was the Uke for Faith Davenport. The fact that Arell is a Uke at only 12 years old is remarkable. As Sensei Hampton explains, “A good Uke is worth their weight in gold.” For his skills and dedication, Arell was promoted to Green Belt today. We are very proud of all of them!

We welcome the Indiana Judo Promotion Board to the Ross Community Center and thank them for being here. Enjoy the photos of this important day!
